Herbs are awesome! If you've never really liked gardening, but wanted to grow something useful, something that smells good, something that hardly takes any work to grow, and can handle quite a bit of neglect, drought, and abuse...then GROW HERBS (of course they really like it if you do take care of them). You'll never find a more forgiving, useful bunch of plants. Herbs will love the sunniest location in your garden, as long as it has good drainage. Many originated from a Mediterranean habitat. Herbs grow easily in our similar maritmie northwest climate. We are able to collect a variety of fresh cooking herbs anytime of year.

The first garden planted at Meadowhawk Farm was the herb garden. We brought a collection of plants from our previous home. Many were purchased years ago as little starts in 2" pots, others started from seed. Over the years they've spread and self-seeded, never needing to be replaced, while supplying us with a bounty of great smelling and great tasting wonders of nature that we've made into teas, used for cooking, shared with friends, and used as naturopathic remedies. Old stems and surplus plants become part of our compost mixture, recycling everything back into the garden from where it came.

Herbs have been used for centuries for everything from cooking to healing, pest control, and spirtual health. There are so many herbs and uses for them, we couldn't possibly cover the entire subject here. We have an herb list to show you the herbs currently growing at Meadowhawk Farm.  View our list HERE
